The local African American Firefighters Association has already led a downtown memorial march, and residents can still attend convention activities open to the public through Aug. 22.

The open-intake shelter needs donations of money and supplies, plus adopters and fosters, as staff work around the clock to treat and safely place the rescued cats, dogs, and other animals.
3. Family of 14-year-old shot in East Price Hill says he's recovering in hospital (wlwt.com) — A 14-year-old boy is recovering at Cincinnati Children's Hospital after being shot in the face outside a vacant building on Warsaw Avenue in East Price Hill, according to his family. The investigation remains active, with no suspect information released yet.
4. Invasive box tree moths invading Anderson Township, damaging boxwood shrubs (wlwt.com) — Homeowners on Cincinnati's east side, especially in Anderson Township, are seeing their once-green boxwood shrubs turn brown almost overnight due to invasive box tree moths spreading through Greater Cincinnati. Experts say the caterpillars can quickly devastate plants, and while insecticides may help in some cases, badly browned shrubs might not be salvageable, so residents are urged to consult local nurseries for confirmation and treatment options.
5. Budget cuts makes local district reassign social workers, raising fears of lost support (local12.com) — Cincinnati Public Schools is reassigning its four ELL social workers to single buildings instead of serving English-learning students district-wide, sparking fears that vulnerable kids will lose trusted support. District leaders cite budget cuts and say every school will still have a social worker, but staff and advocates worry students facing trauma, immigration issues, and language barriers may fall through the cracks.
