Alecia Lipton, spokesperson for Hoxworth Blood Center, said patients with leukemia often need blood and platelet transfusions to counteract the side effects of chemotherapy and to provide a dose of healthy blood cells.
"Those transfusions are only made possible by blood banks and the volunteer donors who so generously give their time and blood," Lipton said.
The Blood Drive for Beth will take place at Pleasant Ridge Montessori School, 5945 Montgomery Rd., from noon to 6 p.m. on March 13.
Appointments are encouraged, but walk-in donors also are welcome.
