"The work of the Business Advisory Council has been steadily growing and evolving over the past five years. The recognition is a testament to the collective work and the passion to provide opportunities for our students," said Brittney Cousins, the district's career-based learning manager and liaison to the BAC.
The 20-member CPS BAC is instrumental in designing, planning and coordinating work experiences with Cincinnati business partners to give students opportunities to explore career options and gain valuable work experience so they graduate from high school prepared for life.
"The Business Advisory Council opens the door for CPS students to see post-high school employment opportunities that maximize their potential and meet our region's workforce needs of the future," said Cousins.
"The BAC is accomplishing this by connecting business volunteers with CPS students to help students recognize potential career options and develop real-world, career-based skills. These interactions will help students see the career opportunities that exist and the skills that they will need to fill these positions," Cousins added.
The BAC, formerly the Business-Education Connectivity Council (BECC), was established at CPS in 2014, before ODE mandated that school districts form such a group.
Since then, the BAC has organized numerous events for CPS students, such as career expos and mock interviews, and paved the way for students to gain an understanding of logistics at DHL, cybersecurity at Belcan or healthcare at TriHealth.
The BAC welcomes new business partners. If you would like to learn more, email Cousins.
