The club's first project: Hosting a virtual Black History program on March 1.

Students created an art contest and are asking students to share different ways they celebrate Black History. Many were inspired by class discussions about Amanda Gorman, America's National Youth Poet Laureate, and students created poetry to share.

Cheviot School is a Leader in Me school where students learn to advocate for their needs and seek ways to display their leadership. Teacher teams work with students to give them space to discuss issues and concerns relating to what’s going on in our community, country and world.

Next up: Cheviot's students want to spread their impact. A partnership is in the works with Carson School's sixth-graders to do a collaborative social justice project.

"Since this is student led, there is no telling what this project will be, but their passion for this work impresses me every single day," said Sierra Sullivan, Cheviot's Assistant Principal.
