Here are the top three stories in Cincinnati today:
- This Sunday, Apr. 24, was Orthodox Easter, and hundreds of volunteers from two local groups celebrated by bringing the community a taste of Ukraine. Cincy 4 Ukraine and Hope 4 Ukraine, two organizations that were founded in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, held a food festival celebrating traditional Ukrainian dishes at United Church of Christ on Fleming Road. If you missed this tasty event, you can join Cincy 4 Ukraine on May 9 for Pierogi for Peace. (WKRC TV Cincinnati)
- The Beech Acres Parenting Center kicked off National Foster Care Awareness Month (May) a little early this weekend with "Kickin' It For Kids," a foot-golf fundraiser to benefit the Beech Acres Foster Care program. The teams of participants competed at Reeves Golf Course in East End in a game of soccer golf, which involves kicking soccer balls down golf fairways into oversized holes. According to Jessica Thompson, Director of Foster Care at Beech Acres Parenting Center, the organization's programs benefit the approximately 1,800 Hamilton County children who are currently placed with a non-familial foster parent or with a relative. (FOX19)
- Late last week, Hamilton County announced its Senior Utility Assistance Program, which helps eligible older adults with their utility bills and home repairs. Residents age 60 and older who don't qualify for other assistance programs, such as the Hamilton County Rent and Utility Relief Program, and who meet certain income requirements are eligible to apply. According to organizers, the Greenspace Celebration was "a way to bring people from different backgrounds together." (WKRC TV Cincinnati)
