Here are the top three stories in Cincinnati today:
- Cincinnati City Officials announced a pilot program that would send mental health professionals instead of police to answer non-violent, low-risk calls. The city's Emergency Communications Center would determine whether police or a licensed behavioral health clinician and paramedic team should respond. The licensed behavioral health clinician and the paramedic will respond to mental health, depression, homelessness, or substance abuse situations. (Cincinnati CityBeat)
- Cincinnati Children's Hospital has treated six children with a mysterious sudden onset of hepatitis. Dr. Elizabeth Schlaudecker, an infectious disease specialist at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, said that many of the children that have presented with acute hepatitis have had adenovirus associated with it. Adenoviruses are common viruses that rarely result in hepatitis. (WKRC TV Cincinnati)
- Cincinnati's Recreation Commission announced that only eight of the city's 23 pools will open this season primarily due to a shortage of lifeguards, and the community is not happy. Daniel Betts, the director of the Cincinnati Recreation Commission, said they started recruiting aggressively six to seven months ago but they have not been able to pick up enough returning or new lifeguards. Betts added that people interested in becoming a lifeguard would go through two weeks of paid training. (The Cincinnati Enquirer)
