🌱 Cincinnati Rush-Hour Restrictions + Remote Work Tax Lawsuit

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Cincinnati.

Good morning, friends! It's me, Carla Varner, your host of the Daily. Keep reading for everything you need to know about what's going on these days in town.

First, today's weather:

Clouds and sun; less humid. High: 75 Low: 56.

Here are the top three stories in Cincinnati today:

  1. Cincinnati City Council members Reggie Harris, Meeka Owens, Liz Keating and Mark Jeffreys put forward a motion requesting that the administration eliminate rush-hour parking restrictions city-wide. The Council members want to eliminate the 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. parking restriction times, allowing the parked cars to serve as a low-cost barrier between traffic and pedestrians. Some neighborhoods, including Clifton and Northside, have permanently removed rush-hour parking restrictions. (WVXU)
  2. Two Cincinnati police officers were taken to the hospital and two suspects were put in custody following a pursuit that ended in a crash on Martin Luther King Drive. Officers responded to an initial report on Wednesday morning of a stolen car with a child inside of it. While a child was not found, one officer sustained a shoulder injury and the other suffered an ankle injury. (WLWT Cincinnati)
  3. Ohio mayors and city councils are on edge as the State Supreme Court prepares to hear the case of Josh Schaad, a Blue Ash man who claims the City of Cincinnati unfairly taxed him for remote work. During the pandemic the legislature passed a bill that taxed people who worked remotely while eliminating a tax exemption previously in place for work done outside city limits. Jay Carson, the senior litigator at the Buckeye said, "In this case Mr. Schaad lives outside the city of Cincinnati in Blue Ash, yet he was paying Cincinnati tax for all the work he did in Blue Ash."
