🌱 Council Supports Senate Bill 334 + Hotel Denied Landmark Status

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Cincinnati.

Hey, everybody! It's me, Carla Varner, your host of the Daily. Follow along for the most important things happening in town.

First, today's weather:

Mostly cloudy, brief showers. High: 67 Low: 54.

Here are the top three stories today in Cincinnati:

  1. The Cincinnati City Council unanimously passed a resolution in support of Ohio Senate Bill 334 that would prevent large out-of-state companies from buying foreclosed single-family homes in large quantities. The bill effectively gives greater power to individual tenants and other bidders when buying foreclosed homes. Supporters are hopeful that the bill will protect housing conditions for renters and homeowners in the Cincinnati area. (WCPO 9 Cincinnati)
  2. Cincinnati City Council's Equitable Growth and Housing Committee voted down designating the Terrace Plaza Hotel a local historic landmark on Tuesday, May 24. Councilmember Jeff Cramerding was the only member to vote in favor. This vote marks the second time the council voted against the designation. (Cincinnati CityBeat)
  3. The sewer segment that broke and created a sinkhole in downtown Cincinnati at 8th and Walnut was brick and installed in 1881, said Superintendent of Wastewater Collection Jenny Richmond. "The force of the water over time just eroded away at the opposite side of the sewer and it eventually collapsed," said Richmond. There are more than 92,000 sewer segments in the district, and 16 percent of them are more than 100 years old, added Richmond. (WVXU)
