🌱 TikTok Challenge Invokes Police + New Cincinnati Area Code
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Cincinnati.
Welcome back, Cincinnati! Let's get this Friday started. These are the most important things going on in Cincinnati today.
First, today's weather:
Cloudy, a little rain; cooler. High: 47 Low: 40.
Here are the top two stories today in Cincinnati:
- A TikTok challenge has prompted an increased police response at schools on Friday around the Tri-State and across the country. The challenge, which dubs Friday, Dec. 17 as "National Shoot Up Your School Day," encouraged students to make threats of violence against their school. Cincinnati Public Schools issued a statement on its website Thursday, acknowledging the challenge and providing the steps it is taking to combat any potential issues. (Springfield News Sun)
- A 19-year-old died after a shooting in East Price Hill on Wednesday. It happened around 7:45 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a person shot in the 400 block of Purcell Avenue. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. (WLWT Cincinnati)
- Cincinnati's iconic "513" area code won't be the only one in the Queen City. State officials say the 513 area code is expected to run out of available phone numbers in the fourth quarter of 2023, so they've approved a plan this week to overlay a new 283 area code over the existing 513. The actual implementation of the overlay will be determined at a later date, officials said. (WLWT Cincinatti)
