🌱 Empty Kroger Becomes Mobile Market + Cincinnati Voter Access
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Cincinnati.
Good day, people of Cincinnati! It's me again, Sean Peek, your host of the Cincinnati Daily.
First, today's weather:
Partly sunny. High: 28 Low: 8.
Here are the top 3 stories today in Cincinnati:
- What was once an empty Kroger building in Cincinnati is now a mobile market for those in need of affordable groceries. Every Friday, dozens of residents line up to grab groceries at the Walnut Hills Redevelopment Foundation's weekly Friday Food and Fun event. The organization partnered with the Freestore Foodbank's Healthy Harvest Mobile Market to make fresh, healthy food more accessible to residents. (Spectrum News 1)
- The Cincinnati Council may soon take on a larger role in increasing voter access close to home. Proposed suggestions include a mobile vote center, granting PTO for city workers to vote, providing transportation to the polls, and offering more educational materials on the voting process. The motion will be up for a vote this afternoon at 12:30 p.m. (WVXU)
- Cincinnati city officials broke ground on a solar array project last spring, slated to be completed by December of 2021. However, the project has been stalled by supply chain issues, with part of the city's solar array arriving by Mar. 15. About a third of the generated electricity will be used for government buildings, while the rest will go to Cincinnati residents. (WVXU)
From our sponsor:
Last week, we told you about our new favorite non-alcoholic go-to — the refreshingly bitter drinks from our partners at Betera. They're chef-created from natural botanicals, lightly effervescent and worthy of life beyond "Dry January." We mentioned that their Ginger-Orange was excellent; we've since tried Elderflower-Lime and loved it as well — light and floral with the perfect amount of zing. We're converts.
Enough of you took Betera up on their 15% discount on first orders for Patch Daily readers that they've extended the offer for another week. Use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — try Betera here.
Today in Cincinnati:
- Naturalization Ceremony - League of Women Voters (2:00 PM)
From my notebook:
- The Cincinnati Reds gave Fiona the Hippo her very own jersey to celebrate her fifth birthday. (WLWT Cincinnati)
- Headed to Findlay Market? Check out Cosmic Gorilla, a comic book shop and bar that's sure to delight comic fans of all ages. (Cincinnati CityBeat)
- In an effort to improve its transportation services, Cincinnati Metro is inviting riders to share their feedback in one of three virtual sessions. The first session will be held today at 11:30 a.m., with the second and third sessions scheduled for Thursday at 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (Instagram)
