Here are the top three stories today in Cincinnati:

  1. The Cincinnati Police Department re-arrested an escaped inmate from River City Correctional at Reggae night on Fountain Square Wednesday. Authorities said 23-year-old Carmin Thomas broke out of supervised detention at River City Correctional on Jun. 27. An employee of the correctional center spotted Thomas at the concert, which led to his arrest. (WLWT Cincinnati)
  2. Cincy Insights reported that violent crime has declined in downtown Cincinnati in the first six months of the year over the last decade, while aggravated assaults have increased. 10 aggravated assaults were reported this year, four of which happened in The Banks. Senior Pastor at New Beginnings Church of the Living God in Avondale said that in order to curb violence, the city needs to get at the root of the problem, of which poverty is a part. (WCPO 9 Cincinnati)
  3. A federal report released on Wednesday shows the government's Consumer Price Index rose 9.1 percent last month, the fastest year-over-year jump since 1981. University of Cincinnati economics professor Michael Jones said, "There's very little good news out of this report." The report shows the cost to buy a new car rose 11.4 percent since last year, groceries went up 12 percent and airline tickets increased by a staggering 34 percent — impacting residents across Cincinnati and beyond.
