Harrison Veteran Recognized Nationally by VFW for #StillServing

Harrison veteran Clarence “Sonny” Haubner's dedication to country and community has earned him recognition in the national Veterans of Foreign Wars #StillServing campaign. The campaign honors veterans who continue to serve after the military.

Haubner served in the U.S. Marines during Vietnam and 18 years later joined the Indiana National Guard to fight in Desert Storm. He continued serving until he retired at age 60.

Haubner serves as quartermaster of VFW Post 7570, overseeing all Post finances. Over the past two years with the pandemic wreaking havok on budgets, he researched and applied for $35,000 in grants that were invaluable in allowing the Post to remain open and continue helping veterans. He emphasized that veterans need to know that VFW Posts serve an important role, providing camaraderie with others who have similar combat experiences, lending an ear or helping with benefits or financial aid.

“The feeling of being alone and no one understanding is one that many veterans experience, is devastating and sometimes fatal,” he explains. He says if he can help even one veteran, his time and efforts are worth it.
