- A study published by the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and San Diego State University is raising awareness of the dangers of third-hand smoke. Long after a cigarette has been consumed and the smoke has dissipated, traces of nicotine can linger on surfaces. The study looked at the hands of roughly 500 children from the Cincinnati area and found that 95 percent of the children had nicotine on their hands despite being from smoke-free homes. Third-hand smoke can trigger lung problems and other various illnesses. (The Cincinnati Enquirer)
