🌱 New Measures To Combat Gun Violence + Sittenfeld Guilty On 2 Counts
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Cincinnati.
Hello again, everybody. It's Saturday in Cincinnati and I'm back in your inbox with everything you need to know about what's happening in town. Here goes...
First, today's weather:
Clouds yielding to sun. High: 80 Low: 59.
Here are the top three stories in Cincinnati today:
- The jury in the P.G. Sittenfeld corruption case reached a verdict yesterday, finding him guilty on one count of bribery and one count of attempted extortion. Sittenfeld was found not guilty on four other charges, including wire fraud. The case was handed over to the jury Wednesday afternoon, and they spent all day Thursday deliberating. (Local 12)
- Rising rental costs are leaving some former inmates homeless. With rental prices going up 38 percent since last year, Trina Jackson, the director at the Hamilton County Office of Re-entry said, "It's extremely challenging and discouraging for our clients as well." Jackson added that the housing choice voucher would be a great option for former inmates. (Spectrum News 1)
- Mayor Aftab Pureval and other city leaders announced on Thursday new measures to combat the rising gun violence in the city. The city will dedicate $1 million to employing youth, will work with nonprofits, like the Urban League, and reinvent the Cincinnati Initiative to Reduce Violence. Mayor Pureval said, "This violence protection collaborative brings residents and organizations together to disrupt the pathways to violence through youth mentoring, advocacy, and character-building programming."
