Ohio Connections Academy Recognizes Cincinnati Students

Star Student Award recognizes students for achievement in and out of the virtual classroom

Brennan McGlone and Jackson Lohstroh of Cincinnati were recently named Ohio Connections Academy’s (OCA) Star Students of the Month for January in recognition of their academic achievements and leadership in and outside the classroom.

Brennan, a first grader at the statewide online public charter school, was nominated by his teacher Mrs. Reich in recognition of his outstanding attitude towards school. Jackson, a second grader, was nominated by his teacher, Mrs. Gleason, for the outstanding effort he has given in the classroom. As Star Students, Brennan and Jackson will be presented certificates recognizing their achievements and be profiled in Ohio Connections Academy’s student newsletter and on the school’s social media sites. Each month during the school year OCA will recognize students in grades K through 12 who are excelling in the virtual classroom.

“The faculty, staff and members of the board at Ohio Connections Academy are proud to recognize students like Brennan and Jackson and the commitment they demonstrate to our school and their community,” said OCA Superintendent Marie Hanna. “Each of our Star Students is a leader in the classroom and demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to learning – they truly deserve this recognition.”

Brennan started attending Ohio Connections Academy at the beginning of this academic year because he is currently receiving treatment for Leukemia. Due to the pandemic, his mother Holly, believes it is safer for him to learn from home to prevent exposure to the virus. Brennan says he really enjoys learning online and when he is done with his treatment, he said he wants to stay enrolled in OCA.

Jackson also enrolled in OCA this year due to the pandemic. The transition to the virtual classroom was easy for Jackson and he appreciates the convenience and schedule flexibility the program offers as well as the accessibility of his teachers when he needs help.
