Ohio Deputy Shot To Death In Standoff, Leaves Behind 5-Year-Old
Law enforcement agents responded Saturday evening for a psychiatric call at Royal Oak Apartments in Pierce Township. Then gunfire erupted.
CINCINNATI— The deputy sheriff shot to death while trying to help a suicidal person has been identified as a father and 20-year veteran of the Clermont County Sheriff's Office. Law enforcement agents were called around 10:30 p.m. Saturday evening for a psychiatric call at Royal Oak Apartments in Union Township, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
They were met with "a barrage" of gunfire and a standoff ensued from Saturday evening and early Sunday Authorities said one deputy was killed and a second was hurt. The suspected shooter was apprehended around 6:30 a.m. Sunday and a fire broke out about a half-hour later stemming from the deadly standoff.
Detective Bill Brewer of the sheriff's office died from gunshot wounds at Anderson Mercy Hospital, authorities said. He is survived by his wife and 5-year-old son.

"Deputy Brewer gave his life attempting to help a person who was admittedly suicidal,” Sheriff Steve Leahy said in a release. “This will forever change the atmosphere of the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office.”
Lt. Nick DeRose was treated at a hospital and later released.

Capt. Jeff Sellars said officers were originally called when a male said there were people in his apartment who wouldn't leave. He said there were weapons in his home.
The suspect has been identified as Wade Edward Winn, 23.
