Here are the top three stories in and around Cincinnati today:
- Ohio, Kentucky, and the rest of the country recently rolled out the 988 program which connects callers to suicide prevention counselors, addiction specialists, and other mental health resources. The National Suicide Prevention Hotline, which has been in operation since 2005, recently shortened its 10-digit phone number to 988. People in distress can now call or text the three-digit number. (CityBeat)
- A study from the real-estate brokerage company Redfin revealed that Cincinnati asking rents jumped the highest in the nation, rising 39 percent year over year. The median asking rent in the Queen City is now $1,815. Seattle placed second with a 33 percent raise, and New York came in third with a 27 percent raise. (WCPO)
- Cincinnati residents should prepare for some extreme heat. Today, Wednesday, Jul. 20, is expected to be the hottest day of the week with temperatures reaching the low to mid-90s. The humidity will make the heat feel worse. A Heat Advisory will be likely for the afternoon. (WCPO)
