Here are the top stories in Cincinnati today:
- The Purple People Bridge, which connects Newport to downtown Cincinnati, is finally reopening after being closed for more than 6 months. On May 11, a large stone from a pier fell into the Ohio River; by late summer, the Devou Good Foundation committed $154,000 in repairs. A private ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Friday morning on the Cincy side of the bridge, followed by a public celebration that evening. (WKRC TV Cincinnati)
- The Cincinnati Police Department is getting money to hire 50 new police officers. The department is set to receive more than $6 million in grants from the Department of Justice. It's part of the DOJ's community-oriented policing services that helps departments add officers to reduce crime and improve community policing. (WKRC TV Cincinnati)
- Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is looking for children to participate in COVID-19 vaccine trials for kids 5 years old and younger. (WCPO)
- At the University of Cincinnati, the campus group UC Health for the Homeless is working to change the stigma and narrative surrounding homelessness in Clifton. (The News Record)
- The Cincinnati Fire Department rescued a painter stuck in an elevated bucket after a commercial lift caught fire. (WCPO)
