🌱 Rare Chinese Artifact Found In Museum Collection + Dennard Released

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Cincinnati.

Hello all! Carla Varner here with your Thursday edition of the Cincinnati Daily, filled with all the local news you need to know right now. Let's have at it.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and pleasant. High: 85 Low: 64.

Here are the top three stories today in Cincinnati:

  1. The Cincinnati Art Museum's curator of East Asian art, Dr. Hou-mei Sung, discovered a "plain-looking" bronze mirror from the 16th century that reflects an image of a Buddha "surrounded by numerous emanating rays of light" under "special lighting." Dr. Sung discovered the rare Chinese artifact in the Spring of 2021. The mirror, which has been a part of the Museum's ancient artwork collection since 1961, was initially developed in the Han dynasty (202 BCE–220 CE) and will be on display starting Jul. 23. (Cincinnati CityBeat)
  2. Cincinnati breweries dominated at the 2022 US Open Beer Championship. Third Eye Brewing in Sharonville placed third overall with a five-medal performance. Third Eye's Double Astral Imperial Chocolate Oatmeal Stout received a gold score in the chocolate/cocoa beer category and its Dark Aura Chocolate Peanut Butter Stout placed gold in the peanut butter beer category. Kelly Montgomery, head brewer and co-owner of Third Eye Brewing, said, "There are so many great breweries in Cincinnati, and so many great breweries in this country, so to do as well as we did, it's exciting." (The Cincinnati Enquirer)
  3. Former council member Tamaya Dennard was released from federal prison after serving less than a year of her 18-month sentence. Dennard was arrested by the FBI in February 2020 for accepting $15,000 in exchange for her votes. Dennard's attorney said she is not sure if her client was released ahead of schedule due to an early release request because of a foot infection or because of COVID protocol. (WKRC TV Cincinnati)
