🌱 Resolution Prohibits Armed Teachers + Madeira House Explosion
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Cincinnati.
Hey, neighbors! It's me, Carla Varner, your host of the Daily. Here are all the most important things to know about what's happening in the community today...
First, today's weather:
A t-storm around in the p.m.. High: 93 Low: 70.
Here are the top three stories today in Cincinnati:
- The Cincinnati Public Schools Board of Education passed a resolution during its Jun. 13 meeting opposing Ohio HB 99 which allows educators to be armed. The Board's resolution prohibits educators from carrying firearms and calls out legislators for passing the law in spite of opposition from the Ohio Federation of Teachers and the Ohio Education Association. The resolution notes, "This new law continues the State Legislature's efforts to expand the use of guns by school personnel in Ohio schools, while at the same time reducing required gun safety training for school personnel." (Cincinnati CityBeat)
- A 63-year-old Hamilton County man is in serious condition after his house exploded early Wednesday morning. Initially, Madeira police responded to a domestic violence call from someone at the residence who threatened to blow up the home, located in nearby Madeira. When crews got to the scene, they found a small fire and gas explosion that investigators are calling "suspicious." No other homes were damaged. (WLWT)
- Community-based nonprofit 55 North is offering adults 55 and older free transportation to a cooling station as the excessive heat warning continues in Cincinnati. Rides are available for residents in East End, Hyde Park, Madisonville, Mt. Lookout, Oakley, O'Bryonville, and Norwood. Cooling stations opened up throughout the Tri-State and City on Tuesday when the heat wave hit the area. (Fox 19 News)
