🌱 Subcontractors Sued For Building Collapse + Arrest In Woman's Death

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Cincinnati.

Morning, neighbors! I'm back in your inbox this warm morning with your fresh copy of the Cincinnati Daily. Let's get this day started off right, with a quick dive into the most important things going on around town...

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 92 Low: 69.

Here are the top three stories in Cincinnati today:

  1. Baker Concrete Construction Inc., a Monroe, Ohio-based construction company, is suing Cincinnati-area subcontractors, Gateway Concrete Forming Services Inc., Advantage Group Engineers Inc., and Joshua Tolchinsky, an engineer employed by Advantage, claiming the firms are responsible for the partial collapse of a downtown mixed-use redevelopment. Baker filed the lawsuit late last month against the companies and is seeking damages in excess of $7 million. 58-year-old Preston Todd Delph, a Gateway employee, died after the structure gave way and five other people were hospitalized. 2. After losing 43 loved ones to shootings and being shot at multiple times, Kyle Holbrook dedicated himself to being an artist that creates murals about gun violence around the world. Holbrook's latest artwork is part of a 50-state tour with the MLK Community Mural Project. The artist said his most recent mural, a 12-foot-by-6-foot black and white hand making a peace sign, is meant to be a place where people can mourn those lost to gun violence. (Cincinnati CityBeat)
  3. Miguel Angel Gomez Alvarez was arrested and charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, and failure to stop after a crash, in connection with the death of 46-year-old Sherry Haywood who was found dead in West Chester along Muhlhauser Road earlier this summer. A security guard called police the afternoon of May 29 after discovering Haywood's body along the side of Muhlhauser Road just west of State Route 747. The coroner's office concluded that Haywood died from multiple traumatic injuries. (WCPO 9 Cincinnati)
