Good morning, everybody! It's me, Carla Varner, your host of the Cincinnati Daily — back in your inbox with all the most important things happening locally. Without further ado...

First, today's weather:

A t-storm around in the p.m. High: 86 Low: 64.

Here are the top three stories in Cincinnati today:

  1. A 13-year-old drove and crashed a car on Dalton Avenue causing serious injury to a 12-year-old passenger, said Cincinnati Police on Monday. The crash happened at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Jul. 8 in Queensgate. The teenager was driving a 2014 Kia Rio northbound when he lost control of the car and went off the road, hitting metal poles and a transformer box. (FOX19)
  2. A second-year University of Cincinnati student opened From The Sidewalk, a high-end, luxury-brand sneaker store on Main Street in Over-the-Rhine this weekend. The shop, founded by sophomore Nick Nguyen, celebrated its grand opening on Saturday. The store specializes in new, exclusive sneakers, ranging from toddler sizes to men's. (WKRC TV Cincinnati)
  3. Johnny Harris, a Cincinnati police officer, is in need of reconstructive surgery after responding to a reported robbery on Friday night. After identifying the suspect, 16-year CPD veteran Harris asked Peoples to stop, but he kept walking away and ignoring the officers. Officer Harris attempted to calmly talk with Peoples when the suspect swung a concealed metal pipe hitting the officer in the face. (WLWT Cincinnati)
