Here are the top stories in Cleveland today:
- One person was killed and another hospitalized after a shooting on Cleveland's east side on Monday night. Police were flagged down near E. 31st and Central Avenue around 10 p.m. after gunshots had been fired nearby. A 34-year-old man who had been shot in the chest was rushed to MetroHealth, where he was later pronounced dead. A second victim, whose identity has not yet been discovered, was shot multiple times and also taken to MetroHealth. (Cleveland Patch)
- A Mayfield City School District parent is suing the school board over the mask mandate.
The parent is claiming the board violated Ohio's open meeting laws by not holding a public discussion before implementing its mask mandate. The plaintiff also claims that the masks have caused "irreparable injury" to her child. (WJW FOX 8 News Cleveland) - Longtime FOX 8 staffer Herb Thomas passed away Monday, Oct. 4. Herb worked at WJW-TV for more than 40 years as a multi-award-winning photographer and producer and played "Soul Man" on "Big Chuck and Lil' John." Said FOX 8 Vice President and News Director Andy Fishman, "No matter where his work took him, everyone knew Herb and his kind heart." (WJW FOX 8 News Cleveland)
