2,000 Without Power In Northeast Ohio

The number of people without power in Northeast Ohio continues to climb as wind gusts wreak havoc on power lines.

CLEVELAND, OH — More than 2,500 FirstEnergy customers are without power in Northeast Ohio on Wednesday evening. A high wind advisory remains in place for much of the region, with gusts expected to hit as high as 50 mph in some places. At point, on Wednesday afternoon, more than 13,000 people were without power.

"Expect some tree branches to come down. The ground is wet and a few trees could be uprooted. Some power lines may be downed," the National Weather Service said. Minor property damage could also occur. Drivers in large vehicles should be extra cautious on Wednesday.

FirstEnergy said on its outages map that it is experiencing problems throughout the region due to the storm. The company is no longer offering forecasts on when power could be restored.

The high wind advisory will remain in effect for Northeast and North Central Ohio until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. The agency is currently predicting winds will settle down by Thursday morning.

Thunderstorms rolled through much of Greater Cleveland on Tuesday night, ending a gradual warm-up that saw temperatures climb into the 50s. Wednesday could bring a light snow and plunging temperatures. The mid-week high will be 39 degrees.

Light snow could fall throughout the end of the week, but no accumulation is anticipated. Still, it's a heartbreaking way to open Spring in Ohio.
