3 Ohio Highway Patrol Cruisers Hit By Stolen Pickup Truck

The Ohio State Highway Patrol chased a stolen Dodge Ram across Cleveland's east side and into North Randall.

CLEVELAND — At least three Ohio State Highway Patrol cruisers were hit by a stolen pickup truck during a car chase on Wednesday afternoon. The pursuit started on the east side of Cleveland and ended in North Randall. The suspect remains at-large.

While pursuing a suspect in the area of Miles and Broadway avenues in Cleveland, troopers spotted a stolen Dodge Ram. The truck pulled into a gas station and Patrol cruisers blocked the vehicle in.

Troopers then went to talk to the driver. The suspect didn't speak with police, though. Instead, he accelerated and hit one of the patrol cars blocking the Dodge Ram.

A car chase began then, a little before 3 p.m. Troopers pursued the truck to Miles Road and E. 175th Street. The cruiser that was hit by the truck made contact with the vehicle and spun it around, temporarily ending the chase.

Troopers got out of their cruisers to take the suspect into custody. But the truck wasn't done running.

The Dodge Ram again accelerated, hitting two cruisers. The Dodge spun again but continued to drive off. Two of the three pursuing Highway Patrol cruisers were disable.

The first cruiser to be hit — at the gas station — continued to chase the pickup truck. The Ram sideswiped a stopped vehicle at the intersection of Emery and Warrensville Center roads in North Randall. The truck then spend up and lost the cruiser on Lee Road.

The Highway Patrol said the Dodge Ram was later found in the area — abandoned.

Luckily, no one suffered serious injuries during the incident, the Patrol said. However, the suspect has not been located.

Investigators are following up on several leads, but if anyone has information on the driver and his whereabouts, they should contact the Cleveland Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol at (216) 265-1677.
