7 Ohio Companies Announce Layoffs This Week

United Airlines and the Delaware North Companies announced extended furloughs and temporary layoffs.

CLEVELAND — On Thursday, United Airlines announced it would temporarily layoff 450 employees. The airline was the most recent company to announce Ohio job losses connected to COVID-19.

"The pandemic has proved longer in duration and more devastating than anyone could have predicted. This was an unforeseen business circumstance that renders us unable to forecast the precise timeline for business to resume to a level sufficient to return all of our associates to work. Thus, it is reasonably foreseeable that many associates will not return to work within six months," the Delaware North Companies said in a letter to the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.

United Airlines and Delaware North both said they hope the layoffs are temporary, though they cannot provide updates on when employees would return to work.
