Alleged Possession Of Cocaine, Guns Get Clevelander Indicted

The Department of Justice announced an indictment against a 30-year-old Cleveland man this week.

CLEVELAND, OH — A Cleveland man has been indicted for two gun crimes, including one involving crack cocaine, U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman announced this week. Darren Monroe, 30, faces two separate indictments for his alleged crimes.

Monroe allegedly had five rounds of .22 caliber ammunition and crack cocaine base in early November 2016, according to the indictment. Herdman's office also said Monroe had an H&R .22 caliber revolver and ammunition on January 27, 2018.

Monroe was previously convicted three times of felonies for drug trafficking, the indictment said. That bars him from having a gun or ammunition.

Two indictments have been made against Monroe. The first is for one count of illegal possession of ammunition by a felon and possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute. In a second indictment, Monroe has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm by a felon.

Several different law enforcement departments and agencies were involved in investigating Monroe. The Ohio State Highway Patrol, RTA Transit Police, the Cleveland Division of Police’s Neighborhood Impact Community Enforcement Unit, ATF and Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office all contributed to the investigations.
