Amazon Bringing 2,000 Jobs To Northeast Ohio

The company announced plans on Friday to build a new fulfillment center in North Randall.

NORTH RANDALL, OH — Online retail giant Amazon is bringing a massive fulfillment center to North Randall, the company announced Friday. The facility will add approximately 2,000 jobs to the city.

Amazon already operates facilities in Etna and Obetz. The company currently employs about 4,500 Buckeye State residents.

The new Amazon facility will replace the old North Randall Mall, which was demolished in 2014. The North Randall site will clock in at 855,000 square feet. North Randall's Mayor David Smith was jubilant at the prospect of Amazon joining his city. (To stay up to date on local stories, subscribe to the Patch Cleveland newsletter. “Words cannot begin to express what Amazon’s commitment to the development of its fulfillment center means for the Village of North Randall,” said Smith in a statement. “This is a generational project that not only redefines the future of our community but the future of more than 2,000 Cuyahoga County residents who will be employed at the facility.”

The North Randall Mall was once one of the largest commercial malls in America. Like so many other great malls throughout the country, it fell gradually into disrepair until it closed in 2009, cleveland.com reports. For eight years, the property sat vacant.

“Our ability to expand in Ohio is the result of two things: incredible customers and an outstanding workforce in the state,” said Sanjay Shah, Amazon’s vice president of North American customer fulfillment. “We very much appreciate the state and local elected leaders who have supported Amazon’s arrival in North Randall and look forward to bringing more jobs and investment in the coming months.”
