CLEVELAND — In a surprising development on Thursday, the Cleveland Cavaliers traded for Andre Drummond, the center for the Detroit Pistons. The 26-year-old is averaging 17.8 points and 15.8 rebounds per game this season.

To acquire Drummond, the Cavaliers had to send a second round pick, point guard Brandon Knight and center John Henson to Detroit, according to Kevin O'Connor from the Ringer. Neither Knight or Henson had been major cogs in Cleveland's rotation.

The Pistons were looking to shed salary and both Knight and Henson have expiring contracts. The franchise was also worried the center might choose to become a free agent and leave the team, according to ESPN. Such a departure would mean Detroit would lose Drummond and get nothing for his loss.
