Armed Robberies Target Clevelanders Walking To Work

CLEVELAND — Police are looking for a car that was stolen at gunpoint on the last day of April. Investigators believe the car may have been used in two muggings that happened later that day.

At 5:20 a.m., a Chevy Malibu was stolen at gunpoint in East Cleveland. The vehicle was then spotted during two early morning robberies in Cleveland.

At about 6:30 a.m. on April 30, police were called to E. 74th Street. A woman told officers she had been robbed at gunpoint while walking to work. The woman said she saw a silver, four-door sedan pull up next to her and then a man got out, pointed a gun at her and ordered her to "lay down" and give him "everything you have."

The woman didn't have any cash on her, but the suspect stole her cell phone and bank cards. The suspect was last seen getting back into the car and driving toward St. Clair, she told police.

Approximately 10 minutes later, a second person reported being robbed at gunpoint in the area.

A man walking down E. 67th saw a silver Chevy Malibu pull up next to him. A man got out of the car, pulled out a handgun and told said, "You know what time it is." The suspect then forced the man to the ground and took his cell phones and social security card.

The suspect in all the robberies is described as a black man with a skinny build, standing between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 10 inches. The man is believed to weigh between 155 pounds and 180 pounds. He had a goatee and was seen wearing a black shirt.

Police are asking anyone that has information on the robberies or the whereabouts of the Malibu to come forward and contact investigators. The car was last spotted on May 3 in the University Circle area.
