Arrest Made In Shooting Death Of 6-Year-Old Girl In Cleveland

Police announced that one person was taken into custody for shooting a 6-year-old girl in the head.

CLEVELAND — Law enforcement have taken Raysean Howard into custody for killing a 6-year-old girl in Cleveland, police announced. The girl was shot to death inside her home on E. 171st Street on October 5.

According to police, at 1 a.m. on October 5, police were called to the 1300 block of E. 171st for reports of a shooting. Officers were told a child may have been wounded.

When police arrived, they learned that multiple rounds were fired into a house. Several children were sleeping inside the house, and a 6-year-old girl had been shot in the head. Police gave the girl first aid until EMS arrived and took her to University Hospital Rainbow Babies & Children.

The girl, Lyric Lawson, was later pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

Investigators learned a dark colored car was seen leaving the shooting. Cleveland police worked with the FBI to identify a person of interest in the case.

The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office issued a warrant for aggravated murder in the shooting death of Lyric Lawson. Raysean Howard was taken into custody by the US Marshals, in Tennessee, on Wednesday.
