Attempted Robbery Goes Wrong, 1 Dead In Cleveland

Two people were shot when a man attempted to rob a person walking into an apartment building.

CLEVELAND — Two people were shot during a tussle over a handgun on Thursday morning. One of the wounded people later died at University Hospitals.

Police said when they found the man on Woodland they were told there was a second shooting victim in an apartment at Morris Black Place. Both men were identified and rushed to University Hospitals. The man found on Woodland died from his wounds.

The man found in his apartment told police that while he was walking into his building, the other man came toward him, pulled out a gun, and tried to rob him. The two fought over the gun and the weapon fired multiple times. Both men were shot, the man told police.

One man ran toward Woodland and the other ran into his apartment.

Cleveland Police's homicide unit and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office both went to the scene of the shooting. Investigators said this incident has not been closed and detectives are in the early stages of piecing together what actually happened.
