CLEVELAND — Swimmers should avoid Lake Erie on Sunday, the National Weather Service warned.

"Wind and wave action will cause currents on the lakeshore. Swimmers should not enter the water. Currents can carry swimmers away from shore through a sand bar and along structures extending out into the lake," the agency said.

Rain is expected throughout Sunday, so many beach-goers may avoid Lake Erie's shores anyways. Showers should drench much of Northeast Ohio through Sunday morning and into Sunday evening, current forecasts suggest.

The inclement weather will be accompanied by 15 mph winds, which contribute to the danger posed by Lake Erie's waters on Sunday.

More storms are expected as the work week begins, but it's unclear what impact that will have on the lake.
