Here are the top stories in Cleveland today:

  1. A group of Black contractors sent a letter to Gov. Mike DeWine one week after their protest downtown against Sherwin-Williams. The contractors ask the governor to intervene in their fight to include a Black-owned firm as one of the lead contractors in the paint company's new headquarters project in downtown Cleveland. In their letter, the group also claims Sherwin-Williams has "a history of taking hits to make sure projects are not diverse and major contracts are not awarded to Black-owned firms." (Cleveland 19 News)
  2. Police are investigating a fatal shooting on the playfield outside Gunning Recreation Center in Cleveland's West Park neighborhood. A 20-year-old man was killed Saturday evening around 6:00 PM after being shot multiple times. Cleveland Police detectives and crime scene investigators roped off the playfield in the back portion of the park near and a portion of Puritas Ave., not far from W. 167th St. Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact Cleveland Police Detectives or Crime Stoppers. 3. A 96-year-old lifelong Cleveland Indians fan fulfilled her bucket list wish to attend a home game. On Saturday, Lakewood woman Vernice Evancho and her family made the trip downtown to see one of the team's last games as the Indians (soon-to-be Guardians). Vernice has dementia and is cared for full-time by her daughter, with support from the palliative care services at the Hospice of the Western Reserve. Vernice's social worker heard about the bucket list and referred her to the agency's wish "Moments to Remember" program which focuses on enhancing the quality of life for hospice patients by giving them the opportunity to see a special request or wish come true.
