Blazing Temps Continue In Northeast Ohio, Thunderstorms Possible

An air quality alert has also been issued for northern Ohio.

CLEVELAND — Northern Ohio's prolonged stretch of scorching hot days will continue for most of this week. Scattered thunderstorms may hit the region on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, but temperatures are expected to quickly return to the 90s.

"A prolonged stretch of hot conditions will continue through Friday," the National Weather Service warned. "High temperatures will be in the low to mid 90s each day with heat index values of 95 to 100."

Heat advisories may be issued for parts of northern Ohio this week. Precautions should be taken to prevent heat-related illnesses. Ohioans should check in on neighbors or loved ones who are susceptible to heat sicknesses.

There is a slim chance of thunderstorms on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service said. The agency said there is a 30-percent chance of storms developing in northern Ohio.

Storms are more likely on Friday or Saturday, as heat's grip on the region is gradually shaken off.

For the past two days, northern Ohio has also been under an air quality alert, this means that "air quality levels will be unhealthy for sensitive groups during this period."

Northern Ohioans are being asked to use their cars less, to not idle their engines, to wait to mow their lawns and refill tanks after sunset.
