Cleveland Heights-University Heights Schools Have 1 National Merit Semifinalist, 3 Commended Students

Charles Adam, Dorrie Pharis, Cody Radivoyevitch and William van den Bogert were named National Merit Scholars.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH - Heights High Seniors Charles Adam, Dorrie Pharis, Cody Radivoyevitch and William van den Bogert were named National Merit Scholars.

Adam is a Merit Scholar Semi-Finalist in the 2016 competition and has the opportunity to advance to the Finalist level and qualify for the National Merit Scholarships. 16,000 Semifinalists were recognized nationally, representing less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors.

Adam will have the opportunity to compete against other semifinalists to become a Finalist and earn a National Merit Scholarship, which will be announced in 2017. About 1.6 million juniors entered the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). National Merit Semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, including the highest scoring entrants in each state.

Dorrie, Cody and William were named Commended Scholars, placing among the top five percent of the students who entered the competition but will not continue in competition for National Merit Scholarship awards.

Commended Students placed in the top five percent of students taking the PSAT/NMSQT. National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) is a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance and was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
