Cleveland to Host Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony Every Other Year

Starting in 2018 Cleveland will host the induction ceremony every other year, according to the CEO.

With Cleveland being home to the Hall of Fame, one could call Cleveland the home of rock and roll. Now it seems the hall of fame induction ceremony will be coming home every other year.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame CEO Joel Peresman revealed (or possibly let it slip) in an interview with entertainment website Den of Geek that the ceremony will “flip every other year between New York and Cleveland.” In the past it has swapped between the two cities and Los Angeles, where the ceremony was held in 2013. But before this latest announcement there was no regularly set schedule.

Cleveland has hosted the induction ceremony three times, and is scheduled to host it again in 2018.

This year’s ceremony was held Friday at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn. The 2016 class included Deep Purple, Cheap Trick, Chicago, Steve Miller, Bert Berns and N.W.A. The ceremony wasn't lacking in the drama department, especially when Steve Miller slammed the ceremony and institution after his own induction.

The decision to award Cleveland biannual hosting makes sense, it is after all home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum. It's also where Alan Freed supposedly coined the term, "rock and roll." Now Cleveland residents will be able to experience the induction ceremonies on a regular basis and see their favorite rock legends being recognized for their achievements. The move may also benefit Cleveland's tourism industry as an added bonus..
