CLEVELAND — A 20-year-old Cleveland man has been sentenced to prison for his role in an armed bank robbery.

Approximately $14,000 was stolen from the bank during the robbery, court documents indicated. Sanders placed the stolen cash in a plastic bag and then ran through the parking lot. During his escape, a dye pack exploded and he briefly dropped the bag, prosecutors said.

Sanders worked with another man, I'ziah Clark, 21, also from Cleveland, to pull off the robbery, prosecutors said.

Clark pleaded guilty to armed robbery charges in May 2020 and was sentenced to 68 months in prison.

Sanders was previously found guilty of similar crimes for a robbery on June 12, 2018, 12 days after the Citizen's Bank robbery. In that case, a gun was used to rob a LoanMax in Cleveland Heights, prosecutors said.

The FBI and Richmond Heights police investigated Sanders for the Citizen's Bank robbery.
