Cleveland Police Foundation Salutes Police Officers Of The Month
"These four outstanding police officers went beyond the call of duty."
Press release from the Cleveland Police Foundation:
Dec. 15, 2020
The Cleveland Police Foundation (CPF) is proud to recognize Patrol Officers John Boumis, Ryan Corrigan, John McCartney and Daniel Piper as the November 2020 Police Officers of the Month, according to Grant Dinner, Foundation Chairman. Foundation community partners of the month were also recognized.
These four outstanding police officers went beyond the call of duty. Recently while on patrol, Officers John Boumis and Daniel Piper were flagged down by an East 68th Street resident. The citizen was visibly upset because her home had been struck by a car several days before and she couldn’t afford to have the debris in front of her house and the surrounding area cleaned up.
“Officers Boumis and Piper recruited Officers Ryan Corrigan and John McCartney to return to the woman’s home a few days later. Working together, they disposed of all debris and cleaned up the area for a very thankful Clevelander,” said Dinner.
When asked about this unselfish act of kindness, Cleveland Police Fourth District Sergeant Ray O’Connor stated, “During a time when everyone wants to focus on the negative, we should shine a spotlight on this over-and-above act of Community Policing. The Cleveland Division of Police Fourth District proves community policing is alive and well.”
Native Clevelander Alex Boone has been a long-time supporter of the Cleveland Division of Police and the Cleveland Police Foundation. He and his wife Dana oversee the Rhino Boone Family Foundation.
Alex, who played for St. Edward High School and The Ohio State University, went on to play for nine years in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals.
While in Cleveland, Alex has often accompanied police officers to MetroHealth to visit the children in the Pediatric Unit. He has supported the CPF pancake breakfast fundraisers and has given financial support.
Alex, Dana and the Rhino Boone Family Foundation recently sent the CPF a significant donation as a tribute to Captain Keith Sulzer’s retirement from the Cleveland Police Division. This contribution was divided among CPF’s umbrella charities including Officer Derek Owen’s Memorial Park, Cops for Kids, The Heroes Fund and the Cleveland Police Mounted Unit Charitable Trust.
It is because of their understanding of the importance of supporting the Cleveland Police and investing in Cleveland neighborhoods that the Cleveland Police Foundation is pleased to name Alex and Dana Boone and the Rhino Boone Family Foundation as its Community Partners for the Month for November, according to Dinner.
