Cleveland Police Officer Accused Of Drunken Driving
A Cleveland police captain has been accused of driving drunk on Christmas night.
CLEVELAND — A Cleveland police officer is facing accusations of drunken driving. Police captain John Sotomayor has been assigned to restricted duty, pending the resolution of the case against him.
Sotomayor, 52, was charged with physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence by Twinsburg police on Tuesday. On Wednesday afternoon, Cleveland police announced Sotomayor's reassignment and a departmental investigation into his actions.
Sotomayor was hired by Cleveland police in June 1990 and was most recently assigned to the city's fourth district.

Twinsburg police stopped a car on Route 82 on Christmas night, after receiving a call complaining about a possible drunken driver. The caller said a car was "swerving all over" the road.
Sotomayor was identified as the driver and his car was towed from the scene. However, the police captain was allowed to call his wife for a ride home, according to Fox 8.
