Cleveland Tech Hub Project Gets Boost From County

The "Hive" received a $350,000 grant from Cuyahoga County Community Improvement Corporation.

CLEVELAND — A project to attract tech-focused companies to Cleveland will receive a $350,000 loan from the Cuyahoga County Community Improvement Corporation (CCCIC). The loan was reviewed at the Augsut 14 CCCIC Board of Trustees meeting.

The project, called The Hive My Place, will appeal to young, tech-focused companies and offer them tenancy in a building in downtown Cleveland. The project is expected to create 30 new jobs.

The Hive My Place company was formed in 2018, with the purpose of renovating a mostly vacant building at 2019 Center Street in Cleveland. The building was once the home of the Cuyahoga County Engineers Office. The county estimates The Hive will invest $5.7 million in improving its building.

“I’d like to thank the Department of Development for participating in the redevelopment capital stack for The Hive. The County’s confidence in our project shows the market its dedication to tech focused job creation,” said Rico Pietro, principal at Cushman & Wakefield/Cresco Real Estate.

The Center Street building is now home to tech firm Wisr, a software company which buildings connections between higher education students and alumni, and Employstream, an onboarding platform for companies. The architectural firm Richard L Bowen & Associates are also slated to take residence in the building.
