Clevelander Killed Near Glenville Grocery Thursday Night

A 27-year-old was found outside with gunshot wounds to his side and chest, according to police.

CLEVELAND — A man was shot to death near Glenville Grocery on Thursday evening, police announced.

Police said Sherrell Mattis, 27, was found on the corner of E. 105th Street and Ostend Avenue, outside the business, with gunshot wounds to his chest and side. He was rushed to University Hospitals, where he died from his injuries.

Mattis is believed to have been shot in the store's parking lot. He then walked to E. 105th and Ostend, where he collapsed and was later found by paramedics.

Witnesses told police that Mattis was either walk or standing in the parking lot when he was shot by a man. A second person, a woman, was hit by a stray bullet as she pulled into the grocery store parking lot. She suffered a minor cut to her face, police said.

The suspect in this case is a black man, with a slim build, in his late 20s. He is approximately 6 feet tall, according to Cleveland Police.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office released Mattis' identity on Friday morning. His death is being investigated as a homicide, according to officials.
