Cleveland's Hummingbirds Finally Return

Cleveland Metroparks announces the return of Ohio's hummingbirds and reveal the best ways to see one.

If you see a small bird zip by you on your afternoon stroll soon, it is because Ohio’s hummingbirds are finally returning to the state.

The Cleveland Metroparks Facebook page has announced that after over-wintering in Central America, these fast-moving feathered little guys are traveling 3,000 miles to get home.

The ruby-throated hummingbird is the only one commonly seen in Ohio, and is also the smallest species of this particular bird. Males of the species can be identified for their namesake, a ruby throat, while females’ colors are more neutral.

For those looking to see these birds in action, Metroparks suggests putting up feeders and adding more wildflowers to their garden. Mostly, keep an eye (and an ear) out for these guys in case they zip right by you.
