Coronavirus In Ohio: 632 New Cases, 20 Deaths

Ohio continued a surge in new coronavirus cases on Wednesday. Gov. Mike DeWine has urged Ohioans to follow health guidelines.

COLUMBUS, OH — Ohio saw a continued surge in new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the state health department reported.

Health officials confirmed 632 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. The state had been averaging 475 new cases per day over the past three weeks. Since June 18, however, has confirmed at least 530 new COVID-19 cases per day.

Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 were also up on Wednesday. At least 68 people were hospitalized because of the virus, up versus the state's per day average of 57.

Ohio also confirmed 20 deaths caused by COVID-19 on Wednesday. Over the past three weeks, Ohio has averaged 22 COVID-19-caused deaths per day.

At least 10 people were admitted to intensive care because of COVID-19 on Wednesday, the Ohio Department of Health announced.

Here's how many COVID-19 cases the state has confirmed per day this week:

  • Sunday — 546
  • Monday — 729
  • Tuesday — 590
  • Wednesday — 632

Gov. Mike DeWine acknowledged the uptick in new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. He urged Ohioans to follow social distancing protocols, to wear masks and to wash their hands frequently.
