Coronavirus In Ohio: New Cases, Hospitalizations Plateau

Data from the Ohio Department of Health shows cases of the new coronavirus, and hospitalizations related to the virus, are plateauing.

COLUMBUS, OH — New cases of the coronavirus and hospitalizations have decreased slightly in Ohio while deaths are still higher than the rolling three-week average.

At least 47 deaths from the new coronavirus were confirmed on Wednesday, the state health department announced. Since the start of the outbreak, at least 1,484 Ohioans have died due to complications from the virus.

Wednesday's 47 new deaths is higher than the state's three-week average of daily new deaths from COVID-19, which is 42.

However, hospitalizations and intensive care (ICU) admissions are down slightly versus their 21-day daily average. There were 79 new hospitalizations confirmed Wednesday, and 16 new ICU admissions. The three-week average for daily hospitalizations caused by COVID-19 is 79. The average for daily new ICU admissions is 18, the state health department reported.

Ohio also confirmed 471 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, the state health department confirmed. That's down versus the state's three-week average for daily new cases, which is 553. Since the start of the outbreak there have been 25,721 cases of COVID-19 confirmed by health officials.

Franklin County leads Ohio in confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 4,113 reported. Lucas County leads the state in COVID-19-related deaths, with 187.

  • Monday — 696
  • Tuesday — 473
  • Wednesday — 471
