Data Breach Hits Ohio Applebee's, Impacts Over 40 Restaurants

COLUMBUS, OH — Customer data at some Ohio Applebee's locations was potentially compromised during a data breach, according to RHM Holdings which owns several of the restaurants. More than 100 locations nationwide may have had data stolen during the incident.

Many of the impacted Ohio restaurants are in Central and Southern Ohio, around major metropolitan areas like Columbus and Cincinnati. Nearly 45 Ohio locations had data stolen. A list of impacted locations can be found at the bottom of this article.

Nearly all of the Ohio restaurants impacted by the breach were hacked into between Dec. 6, 2017 and Jan. 2, 2018.

According to RMH, the breach was designed to capture payment card information and may have affected a limited number of purchases made at the affected locations. Guests' names, credit or debit card numbers, expiration dates and card verification codes could have been affected. RMH says the specific dates the breach took place vary by location.

RMH said it learned of the breach on Feb. 13 and took appropriate steps to ensure the breach was contained and launched as investigation. The company said it also notified law enforcement of the breach.

Besides Ohio, Applebee's locations in Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wyoming were affected by the breach.
