Daughter In Custody After Mother Found Dead In Cleveland

Cleveland Police said they found a 52-year-old woman dead in her home. Officers took the woman's daughter into custody on Thursday.

CLEVELAND - Police believe a 52-year-old woman's daughter killed her on Tuesday morning.

According to Cleveland police, at 2:30 a.m., officers were called to a home on Kewanee Avenue for a disturbance. A neighbor told police he heard a woman screaming for help inside the house.

Officers knocked on the door of the home, but no one came to the door. Police then forced their way into the house and found Donna Ivy on her kitchen floor. She had been hit and was unresponsive, police said. Officers described her injuries as the result of "blunt force trauma."

The sergeant on the scene gave Ivy first aid while the other officers searched the home for other people. Police found Dana Marie Witcher, 21, inside a bedroom. She was taken into custody on suspicion of homicide, police said.

Ivy died from her injuries, police said.

The homicide unit and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office both came to the home. The incident remains under investigation, police said.
