Deadly Cleveland Car Crash: Charges Announced

A 39-year-old woman was killed in a car crash in early May. A man driving the car that caused the crash is now facing charges, police said.

CLEVELAND — A 20-year-old is accused of aggravated vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal car crash that took place in early May, Cleveland police announced this week. A 39-year-old woman was killed in the crash and two children were badly hurt.

Robert Artis, 20, faces charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault. The charges stem from an incident in early May, police said.

At 6 p.m. on May 2, a black Chevy Cruze was going east on Kinsman when it was hit by a Cadillac DTS west going the opposite direction, according to police. Artis was speeding down the street in the Cadillac, according to police.

After the collision, the Cadillac kept driving, according to police. Artis and his female passenger were not injured, police said. However, there were five people inside the Chevy.

A 39-year-old woman in the backseat was grievously wounded and later died from her injuries. Two children in the backseat, ages 5 and 7, were both seriously injured, police said. The driver of the Cruze and their front seat passenger were OK.
