Don't Dream It's Over: Indians Streak Stopped At 22

The Kansas City Royals ended Cleveland's record-smashing streak at 22 consecutive wins. It was one heck of a ride.

CLEVELAND, OH — After 22 straight wins, the Cleveland Indians must get re-acquainted with the taste of defeat. The Kansas City Royals snapped the Tribe's record-smashing streak before it could reach history topping heights.

The Indians were four games from matching baseball's longest unbeaten streak — the 26 straight games won or tied by the 1916 New York Giants. The Tribe instead must settle for having the longest win streak in American League history, nothing to sneeze at.

The Tribe still have the best record in the American League as October baseball looms and have already punched their ticket into the postseason. With three more wins, or Minnesota Twins losses, the team will clinch an AL East title. (To stay up to date on local stories, subscribe to the Patch Cleveland newsletter. The Indians still trail the Los Angeles Dodgers for the best record in baseball. The slumping Los Angeles team has limped its way to a 95-52 record, going 3-7 over its last 10 games.

As for Friday's game, the Indians were done in by a pair of homeruns from Alcides Escobar, short stop, and Brandon Moss, designated hitter. Trevor Bauer picks up a rare loss after Friday night's game, moving to 16-9 on the season. He put in 5.1 innings of work, giving up nine hits and four earned runs.

The Indians won't have time to stew on the loss of their historic streak. The team will return to action Saturday at 4:10 p.m. against the Royals.
