Escaped Inmate Recaptured By U.S. Marshals In Cleveland

CLEVELAND — The U.S. Marshals have recaptured an escaped inmate that jumped out of an ambulance on Wednesday afternoon in downtown Cleveland. Police said the man was taken into custody without incident on Thursday.

Jonathan Luton, 35, was being transported in a North Coast ambulance when he jumped out near E. 30th Street and Chester Avenue. He was last seen wearing a hospital gown, police said.

Luton was on his way to North Coast Behavioral Facility when he escaped. Third District police officers searched the area but were unable to find Luton.

The 35-year-old was originally taken into custody on April 13 on suspicion of aggravated burglary, felonious assault, possession of drugs and aggravated menacing. He was then taken to University Hospital for a psych evaluation. He was being transported to the behavioral facility on Wednesday.

After a night and day of searching, the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force found Luton and took him back into custody. Cleveland Police said he was recaptured without incident.
